XG is the way of the future. Our industry is rapidly moving into digital. The PANTONE® system is not “digital”. It’s a 50 year old “analog” system that requires spot color inks. Printing spot colors is a very wasteful and expensive printing process. Print runs are getting shorter which means more press downtime for packaging printers. Spot colors must be stored in inventory after use.
Opaltone® XG is a 7-color (CMYKRGB) system that doesn’t use spot colors. Changing spot color inks is redundant. This XG system is unique in the industry because it uses Red, Green & Blue primary inks (not Orange, Green & Violet) thus expanding the color gamut even further. Opaltone XG has it’s own PDF RIP engine called VX. VX CMYK
images with RGB and also converts all the spot colors into CMYKRGB separations ready for contract proofing and plate making. The CMYKRGB inks in press, match the inks in the Epson inkjet proofer, delivering a true and predictable match using the OT7® 7-color calibration system. It doesn’t matter if you print Flexography, Gravure, Lithography, Inkjet or Digital. One 7-color XG standard ensures brand owners will receive color consistency across all print platforms.
